Tips for Brides… a new blog series

Monday, January 10th, 2011

When you are are newly engaged and planning a wedding, you may encounter many situations and decisions that you have never had to deal with before.  Up until your wedding, you may have never had to seek out the services of a professional photographer, make-up artist, florist, musician, or caterer.  It can all get very confusing, and there are a million magazines, publications, and websites out there telling you how to find a vendor who is the best, or cheapest, or most lavish, etc…   It can easily become information overload.

So, since I am a wedding photographer, I decided I would provide my own wedding tips and advice related to your wedding photography.  I will be writing a series of blog posts covering different topics from choosing the right wedding photographer to looking best in your wedding photos to choosing an album and more!

If you are in the midst of planning your wedding, you might be watching all of those wedding shows on Television.  You know, the ones like “Say Yes to the Dress”, “Whose Wedding is it Anyway”,  ”My Fair Wedding”, or even the hilariously dysfunctional “Bridezillas”.  (I have been married for over a year, and I STILL watch all of those shows…  I love weddings, what can I say? :) )

Anyhow, to start of this series, I wanted to post a brief video clip from  celebrity wedding expert and host of WeTV’s”My Fair Wedding”, David Tutera.
He gives some great tips on choosing a wedding photographer for your big event.

What to wear (Fall) | Birmingham Photographer

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

So the Fall season is now here! Yay! This is my favorite time of year because the temperatures are perfect and we all know that the cutest clothes come out this time of year!  Speaking of clothes, I have had some requests for Fall Edition of “What to wear to your session”.

Bright colors or jewel tones look great this time of year.  Pair them with something darker and you have yourself a perfect match! (Think… navy and yellow/pink  or dark brown and burnt orange)  There are so many great color combinations, you can’t go wrong.

What to Wear Guide – Family Portraits | Gadsden, Al Family Photographer

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

So many times, people are concerned about what to wear to a photo session (especially FAMILY sessions)….
Deciding what to wear for your family portrait session should not be a scary or overwhelming task. Your session should reflect you and your family). You should be comfortable, feel great, and it will show in your images.

1.) If scheduling a family session: Think COORDINATE, not match. You should choose similar shades in the same color family, or you can even choose colors that go together that are in different color families. You don’t want the entire family to look like clones of each other….. which leads us to number 2.

2.) You should coordinate the feel of the session (formal, casual, etc…), but each member of the family should dress according to their own personal style. Everyone will feel happier if they comfortable with what they are wearing.

3.) Make sure to wear something that is comfortable, functional, and fun. (Now is the time to pull out that special dress, cute accessories, or pair of shoes that you have been saving to wear, but never had the chance too. Just remember, if you can’t move in your outfit, walk in your shoes, or just feel self-conscious, it will show in your images….and you probably will not be happy with them)

A few other little tips:
- Avoid busy patterns on clothing.
- Also, avoid large logos or print on outfits
- When selecting outfits for the family, make sure that no single item sticks out too much. (You want your family to look like a single, well-coordinated group)

Below is a an example of a coordinated style pallet for a family session.
The coordinating element is green, but no one is identical shades, and everyone has their own style represented.
