Ski Trip – Snowshoe, WV

Monday, February 28th, 2011

The week before our house was finished and ready for us to move into, we left the state and headed north for our annual ski trip (and some much needed rest & relaxation before the big move to come).

We have gone skiing every year since my husband and I met, but let me stress…. I am NO skiing expert!  In fact, it is pretty sad that I am still such a beginner considering that I have been many times.  This time, however, I was determined to get better and to lose a little of the fear I have. (I sure wish I had tried to learn when I was younger and didn’t have all of the fear of breaking a bone or hurting myself, lol!) Well, it worked.  I stuck it out on the slopes and got better.  There were times that I would have preferred to be snow bunny and just stay in confines of our condo and sip warm hot chocolate, but I made myself get out there and ski…and I got better.

So, lessoned learned.  Just like with anything else, “practice makes perfect”.

However, with all of my time spent skiing, I didn’t spend as much time taking photos as I had hoped. I did take a few though…

My ski suit and boots before a morning of skiing.

Me on the slopes (taken by my friend Jordan).
We stopped mid-way down the mountain to take in the view and wait on the boys to meet us.

On the way home, I got this photo of 2 deer.
The day we arrived there were at least 30 of them out there, but it snowed a lot while we were there… and the deer found a new place to graze.

It has been quiet around here….

*chirp-chirp*  *chirp-chirp* *chirp-chirp* (silence and crickets chirping)

That is the sound  that my blog & website has been making the past month, but I have a really great reason!  We were  moving!!!

No worries, we are still in Birmingham, but we have been busy building a new home for us and office/studio area for the business!  I wanted to thank everyone for being so patient while we got things moved over, and now we are completely in the new place… though my office is still in boxes.  I got my computer hooked up though, and my camera gear is ready for all of my upcoming sessions… that is most important, of course!!

Construction started shortly after we moved to the Birmingham area, and I was so very eager to see the new space.  My business is growing,  and I needed a space that reflected that.

Before we get to the photos, if you have not already noticed… my business phone number has changed.
It is now a local Birmingham number : 205.386.0331

Here is the space in it’s very EARLY stages.

During the build, my husband and I (and our 3 fur-babies), were living in a smallish apartment  with over half of our furniture and belongings in storage.   It was quite a challenge to fit all of our stuff in to a smaller space, so the storage facility worked out nicely.  In the temporary apartment, my “office” was confined to the corner of a spare bedroom that also housed more storage and my husband’s closet.  It was cramped, but it served it’s purpose in the interim.  I won’t lie though.  Sometimes it was hard to work over there knowing that the new office was being built just a few miles away.

Office space over at the apartment

Once the interior of the new place was finished, I rushed over to take some photos of the empty & completed space.
My new (much, much  larger) desk, just happened to make a cameo appearance in the following photos.   :)

If you look closely behind the door/wall in the next photo you will see a stack of gorgeous canvases ready to be hung!
I can hardly wait for them to go up!

Then came moving day…. and now the wide open space is cluttered with boxes.
The boxes are filled with all of my office/studio/photography/business items that are just begging to be put away in their own little designated spot.
That time will come, once I fill the new space with furniture.

You can also spot my 2 little furry girls among the boxes checking out the new space. :)
And now, there will be a 52 in flat screen tv for proofing sessions!

I know exactly how I want to decorate the new area (I have been brainstorming ever since we started the build).
I have visions of a contemporary/shabby chic style mix, and I want everything bright, light, and clean.  I want the studio/office to reflect my photography style.

I can’t wait to share the completed decor of the studio with everyone… so stay tuned.

Sweet, Sweet baby…

The day of this newborn session I drove an hour and a half in the dreary, cold weather. When I arrived at their home, I was met with a warm embrace and a hot cup of coffee. As soon as I got to hold this precious little girl in my arms she just melted my heart and brightened my day! She is such a tiny delicate, little thing with all of that dark hair.  Her mommy kept a brush handy during the photo session to tame that unruly newborn mane!

She was an absolute pleasure to photograph, and she slept so soundly the entire time.  I don’t believe she even fussed once. (Though, I hear that she is notorious for keeping her parents up at night.) So, maybe we should just do photos of her ALL the time!  If I must say, I do believe she is a complete natural in front of the camera.  She made my job a piece of cake!

I just love her parents to death, and I am beyond thrilled for their little growing family! I am so thankful that I can be a part of documenting this gorgeous little girl’s journey through growing up!

Well, I know you really just want to see the photos right?… Here you go!

Go ahead, I know you want to…
Say it… “AWWWWW!!!”

Nothing more sweet than this tiny little girl in her daddy’s hands.
She already has him wrapped around her itty-bitty finger.
